Dear Friends of Main Street Art,
Main Street Art has provided visual arts education and exhibition in Newfields and the surrounding community for more than ten years. The mission of MSA has been to “create an environment where people can come together to experience, appreciate and participate in the visual arts and where all abilities are welcomed and celebrated.” It is without question, that during most of these past years, MSA has met its mission and actively kept its commitment to Newfields and the surrounding community.
You are receiving this message because the time has come for MSA to look at closing its doors. There are many reasons for this decision and MSA could not have provided great classes and exhibited work if it were for the efforts of teachers, artists, volunteers and our great base of supporters. We thank you all.
Unfortunately, times have changed and it appears that MSA’s mission no longer meets the current artistic and educational needs of the community. After a wonderful turnout this past summer for our kids’ art camps, we have had minimal interest in course offerings through the fall and winter. With careful thought and discussion, the Board of Directors voted in January to take initial steps to close MSA. This will take some time with an anticipated closure in August. At this time, going forward, MSA will no longer offer classes or continue with monthly exhibitions. Note that the building will be open through the month of March; hours will be posted on our website.
The news of the closure of MSA may come as unexpected and even unsettling news. You should know that this saddens us, and those who have invested so much time and energy into making MSA a wonderful success for so long. Again, thank you.
I write this letter to you on behalf of the Board of Directors (Rod Boyer, Nicole Ellis, Marissa Vitolo, and Steve Yevich) for Main Street Art.
Sincerely,
Melissa D. Mischke
Board President
